io9 shared an interesting video about Phoenix Jones aka Ben Fodor. The documentary shot by The Avant/Garde Diaries features an intimate discussion as to why Phoenix want’s to be a ‘Superhero’.
To quote the film makers;
“It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s… Phoenix Jones? Okay, so this superhero may not fly, but he prowls the mean streets of Seattle to make sure its denizens are safe, sound, and abiding by the law. Jones is no cop, but ever since his small son was injured in a carjacking, the real-life superhero has been taking police matters into his own hands. In that incident, neither bystanders – busy shooting Youtube videos on their smartphones – nor the police prevented the incident or helped afterwards. It was experience he never forgot.
The mixed martial arts fighter soon ordered a Batman suit over the Internet, applied some gold paint, and his nighttime alter ego “The Guardian of Seattle” was born. Although Jones and his fellow team members of the “Rain City Superhero Movement” have prevented countless fights, robberies, sexual assaults, drug deals, vandalism, and even a terrorist attack, the local police remain skeptical. That’s no matter for this local crime fighter, as The Avant/Garde Diaries witnessed on a recent foray into a local entertainment district where the crowds clearly seemed to love him, celebrating him like a rock star, and snapping pictures with the real-life superhero.”
