Who will play the man himself?

In case you missed the news during the night, Warner Brothers released their spotlight-stealing news (via Deadline) that Fox has won the rights to ‘Gotham’ and have given the show a series commitment.

The series, from Mentalist creator Bruno Heller, won’t feature Batman, but will instead tell the “the origin stories of Commissioner James Gordon and the villains that made Gotham famous”.

Pretty exciting news, and perfectly (or sneakily, depending on your point of view) timed to try and steal the focus from last night’s debut of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

So what do we make of this?  Let us know what you guys think.

I thought the same thing about the timing on SHIELD’s big opening day!

I am, of course, thrilled at the idea of a good DC series on non-CW TV, but I find it interesting that once again, they are milking the Batman universe. I was happier, frankly, to see WB branching out with ‘Arrow’ and ‘Flash’ (which hasn’t gotten a commitment). They need to branch out more regarding characters, rather than just sticking with the things they know will work. So I hope they use this is a platform to introduce the mainstream audience to other DC characters for future use.

  5. Sounds more interesting than SHIELD but I guess we should wait until we hear the casting news **coughAFFLECKcough**

I rather liked SHIELD’s first episode last night. I was just finishing up my review of it this morning.
