FABLES TO END WITH 150?!
It is a sad day today as Vertigo announced that with the 150ish issue of the series, Fables will be coming to a close. This marks the end of the high number Vertigo books of old and has Fables joining Hellblazer in the group of finished Vertigo Titles. While i don’t see this as a bad thing, i’m enjoying the work that the line is putting out these days, it’s still ad to see such a long lasting book come t a close.
Bill Willingham dropped another bombshell regarding the announcement on his personal page…. He’s retiring?!
“After more than ten years of publication, and hundreds of issues of Fables, and various Fables-related works, I have decided the time has come to begin the process of bringing our sweeping story to a close. And, along the way, I’ve decided to retire from a great deal of my comics work.
Retirement in the storytelling trade means, still working and writing every day, but being a bit more selective in what projects I take on. Pushing 60, I thought it would be a good time to start making concrete plans for those remaining good writing years.
Fables will end with Issue 150, which will be a larger than usual size, as were many of the other milestone issues. Fairest, our companion series, will also come to an end just before the big final Fables issue.”
Fables #137 is out in January, so numbers wise, the book should be finishing around the same time in 2015, which, while is still a way off, it will be interesting to see how this impacts the course the book is taking leading up to it’s final year.
While we here at BCP will be sad to see it go, as it always seems to have been there, we wish Bill all the best for the future, and cant’ wait to see what the book has in store for us before the end.
ark Buckingham who is well known for the series will be appearing at London Super Comic Convention in March 2014.
