Captain America #1 – Paolo Rivera

I never used to bother with variant covers, even though I started collecting comics around 1993/94 when they first became really popular, but recently I have become a bit of a sucker for retro styling on covers, and I now often find myself hunting down cool variants of the various comics I buy.

A big favourite of mine is artist Paolo Rivera. His Hastings variant for Captain America #1 blew me away, and his recent trio of Guardians of the Galaxy ‘Classic Sci-Fi’ homages were awesome, but another recent title that has been coming with some brilliant variant covers is Superman Unchained. Each issue has been released with a number of variants paying homage to Superman through the years, and every one of them has been really damned pretty.

Nowadays, artists such as Milo Manara and the brilliant Skottie Young are almost as well known for their variant covers as they are for anything else, and their work is always a nice little bonus for my collection.

I’ve put a few of my recent favourites below (click them to enlarge). I know at least a few of you BCP followers are big collectors, so I wanna see yer variants! I’d really like to know your favourites, and maybe show us some pics if you can :)
