In perhaps not quite as Tumblr-destroying news as the recent announcement that Young Avengers is set to finish at the end of ‘season one’, Jason Aaron has confirmed that Marvel’s ‘Wolverine and the X-Men’ will be also finishing in February 2014 with issue #42.

On his personal blog, Arron said “I’ve been writing the post-‘Battle of the Atom’ arc of ‘WatXM’ as my goodbye to that series and to the Jean Grey School. Believe me, it wasn’t easy for me to step away from this book. I’ve loved building that school and writing those characters, both the students and the teachers, as much as I’ve loved anything I’ve done in comics. But the school itself isn’t going anywhere.”

Thank you for embracing such an offbeat X-series. 42 issues of Bamfs and Doop and sentient lawns? I love you all for helping make that happen.”

It’ll be interesting to see whether the series truly will be finishing, or just closing up show for a potential relaunch (a’la Fantastic Four and Wolverine).

So what do you make of this? Any fans of the title out there saddened to hear this news?

  1. In all honesty, they have far too many X-Titles. WatX, X-Men, Astonishing X-Men, All-New X-Men. And maybe even a couple more. It’s pretty ridiculous. I try to keep up with one but they all intertwine and make it next to impossible.
