Indestructible is a reasonably interesting exploration of how familiar superheroes would be seen in today’s celebrity obsessed culture. Having a superpower fast tracks anyone into stardom and these ‘mutants’ are a source of worship and bitchy gossip for the masses. Greg Pincus is the clichéd, down on his luck, everyman who finds a way into this exclusive group even without even having superpowers – but what does it matter if everyone believes he does?

There are some good ideas here and some great potential for interesting satire but I worry about the characters. Greg Pincus is a character we all know too well and the rest of the cast aren’t brilliant either. This is mainly due to the dialogue which is notably bland at times which is obviously bad news for any comedy. I do hold out some hope for Greg’s hopeless flat mate though. He’s capable of forcing a smirk.

The art is colourful and very fitting for the story but nothing about this first issue grabbed me. The characters, dialogue and the plot feel a bit flat and unoriginal. Indestructible is mildly entertaining but lacks any sort of impact.

Rating: 5/10.
