ApocalypseAl-03APublisher: Image Comics
Writer: J. Michael Straczynski
Artist: Sid Kotian
Release Date: 2nd April 2014

We have reached the second last instalment of Apocalypse Al, a story based around main character Alison Carter, a Private Investigator, specialising in the end of the world.

A few months ago, in my review of Apocalypse Al , I made mention of the fact that “there was even a hint towards a love interest that has yet to be introduced…” – well Issue was ALL about that love interest. I won’t say too much more as I would be bordering on spoilers… and spoilers get me into trouble.

The issue largely takes place in Happyland, a seventy-five acre theme park filled with rides, shops and a community of unhappy workers. Happyland is quite clearly a copyright dodging joke at Disneyland’s expense, with Walt Disney replaced with Uncle Willy and Mickey Mouse replaced with Marvin the Mouse. This issue remains consistent with the quality of the first 2 issues, equal amounts of suspense and hilarity. The only thing that was missing from this issue was the superb supporting cast that have made previous issues so unforgettable.

There is nothing all that unique about the story of Apocalypse Al. However, I still highly recommend this title. J. Michael Straczynski has created what could be my favourite image title of the year so far.

Rating: 4/5.
