Mike Stone wants nothing more than to marry the woman of his dreams, Denise.  Denise is smart, sexy, teaches the second grade and loves Mike more than anything in the world. What she doesn’t know is that Mike is one of the world’s top assassins and was once engaged to a fellow assassin named Chloe. Mike abandoned Chloe on their wedding day and she vowed revenge.

This week brings us Shotgun Wedding , following on from last week’s very strong introduction to this new weekly, 4-issue, Aprilfest of a title. Issue held strong promise, with fast action following throughout while still maintaining a decent grasp on characterisation.

This week’s issue builds on that start, keeping the action to a minimum but with the tension dialed up throughout. It’s safe to say that every new relationship in our lives comes with the added baggage of our own individual relationship history. However, some peoples ex’s are clearly worse than others. Some peoples ex’s are completely mental. Some peoples ex’s kill people for money. Unfortunately for Mike and Denise, they must deal with the latter of these situations.

The art is clear, easy to distinguish, utilising very clean lines with limited use of backgrounds. Don’t expect any crosshatching here. However, there is no use of colour in this book for some bizarre reason. I am not someone who instantly dislikes a good black and white book, but I feel the story gains no real stylistic advantage for the black and white style.

I will definitely follow this title throughout April though, and I strongly encourage you do the same. It is a solid piece of work with no real time or financial hardship requiring to be dedicated to it beyond the next two weeks.

Rating: 5/5.
