Did This Weeks Agents of SHIELD Hint Towards Avengers 3 Villains?
During this weeks Agents of SHIELD episode “Providence” an interesting piece of dialogue was exchanged — That may very well have pointed towards the Kree being a Big Bad in Avenger’s 3.
The exchange happened between Ruth Negga’s character Raina and Bill Paxton’s Agent Garrett — In which she said:
I thought Phase 3 ended when I couldn’t get the truth about T.A.H.I.T.I from Coulson.
Now that in itself means very little, It isn’t an overt reference towards them nor is it direct confirmation. But lets examine the bigger picture…
Avengers called ahead that Hydra would be villains in Avengers 2. If you will recall the scene aboard the Helicarrier Tony Stark and Captain America confront Nick Fury after finding out about what was one of SHIELD’s dirty little secrets – Mainly “Phase 2” aka research based on Hydra weaponry. It was speculated by some at the time as being a hint at Hydra appearing in Phase 2, which of course we know now is the case given the emergence of Hydra in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The major plot point within TWS being Hydra members took their research over to the fledgling post-WWII spy agency SHIELD as part of Operation Paperclip, Thereby commencing work on “Phase 2” presumably among the organisations various clandestine activities.

Recently Chloe Bennet who plays Skye confirmed with perfect clarity that the blue alien corpse [GH-325] shown in episode “T.A.H.I.T.I” was indeed a Kree. Furthermore we know that the main villain in Guardian’s of the Galaxy – Ronan the Accuser [A Kree in the Mainstream Marvel Universe] is “Thanos’s Admiral” as Lee Pace the actor in the role described him as such in an interview with AMC Cinemas.

This could also follow a pattern of Marvel Studio’s pairing a main villain with foot soldiers within Avengers movies. Phase 1 leading into Avengers had Loki team with the Chituari, Avengers: Age of Ultron will feature Hydra alongside the maniacal titular android [We have yet to find out in which capacity].
The third installment has understandably yet to receive a release date, Guardians of the Galaxy is due out on the 1st of August, this would likely clarify matters somewhat. Marvel Studio’s Phase 3 begins as of July 15th of next year with Ant Man, so whether this theory holds any water should become evident soon enough .
