Well now. Have we been keeping track of the plot here? No? Well, luckily we once again get an recap. However, this is starting in truth to get frustrating.

RID has probably the best dialogue you’ll read in a transformers comic – the writer’s ear for convincing, funny, believable interchanges that’s characterful and compelling is unrivalled. But, the narrative itself is getting tortuous. Convoluted, almost to the point of obstructive. This worries because I’ve been reading and reviewing this for a while, and if that’s how I feel, I dread to think how others feel. Ironically, you probably could jump in afresh to this and be less lost – because I’m just wondering what about x, y and z?

There is wonderful, powerful storytelling here that unlocks and explains parts of the TF mythos perfectly. But I can’t help but feel that this is the wrong point in the broader arc to tell this part of the story. The art is glorious. Rich, vibrant, with the use of light with style and flair, and everyone rendered in their G1 glory. It’s dynamic and I want more. And there’s a brilliant, subtle reworking of the deception logo in battle damage on Galvatron’s chest that genuinely made me laugh.

Next month, it takes on the mantle as the premier title: just – Transformers.  I really, really hope it can continue to deliver.

Rating: 4/5… for now.
