HOWARD-THE-DUCK-02EW.com made the announcement yesterday that Marvel will be bringing Howard The Duck back to the comicbook shelves next Spring in an ongoing series from Chip Zdarsky and Joe Quinones which will see the talking duck setting up in the Marvel Universe as a private investigator.

Following the overwhelming outpouring of excitement that followed his post-credit appearance in this year’s Guardians of the Galaxy (can that still be considered a spoiler?), it was probably only a matter of time before the Steve Gerber and Val Mayerick creation resurfaced, but the creative team of Zdarsky and Quinones make this a doubly appealing prospect.

In an interview with EW, Zdarsky summed up the series by saying “He’s an everyman who happens to be a duck! He’s angry, exasperated, and he’s had it up to here with the world around him, but he’s trapped here! Infinitely relatable!”, with Quinones adding “I think we’re going for something a bit more grounded here. We really wanted to explore Howard’s pain and loneliness, and how he expresses his outsider frustrations with extreme violence. Kidding! It’s definitely meant to be funny. I’m a big comedy fan, so expect a lot of visual gags throughout. Chip and I have already been brainstorming some on the subject.”
