Review – Wytches #3 (Image Comics)
Publisher: Image Comics
Story: Scott Snyder
Art: Jock
Release Date: 17th December, 2014
This comic is a frickin’ kaledioscopic nightmare and I say that from the part of my soul that is constantly terrified of something happening to her precious children. Issue 3 finds Sailor, Mr. Rooks’ daughter, still missing in the woods and if that’s not enough, he tells the police of a horrific visit from some hideous harridan who tells him that he never had a daughter.
The artwork in this comic is simply fantastic. There are layers of colour splashes, drips, undeveloped sections, worn areas, darkness, shadows, psychedelic strobes and beams of light that, rather than illuminate, further hide.
Wytches is a deeply unsettling read. Deeply unsettling. I don’t know whether I love it or am absolutely terrified by it. By the time I got to a page of Sailor Rook’s diary, I almost wet myself.
Rating: 5/5.
