Supergirl reportedly casts its Jimmy Olsen!

It’s being widely reported that CBS have cast Mehcad Brooks (True Blood, Necessary Roughness) to play Jimmy Olsen in their upcoming Supergirl TV series.

According to Variety, Olsen is going to be more than just the geeky photographer that he’s usually depicted as in the comics, and will instead serve as a love interest for Melissa Benoist’s Kara Zor-El.

“Olsen is an attractive photographer at CatCo, the media company where Kara Zor-El works, as an assistant to Cat Grant, (yet to be casted). Recently, Jimmy has been living and working in National City, though the reason is still a secret.  He’s the salt of the earth and this only makes Kara crush on him even more. As Kara emerges as Supergirl they grow closer.

The Hollywood Reporter also released a summary of the show;

“Superman’s cousin, who was born on the planet Krypton and escaped amid its destruction years ago. After arriving on Earth, she was taken in by a foster family, the Danvers, who taught her to be careful with her extraordinary powers (which she shares with her famous cousin, Superman).

Now 24, Kara feels un-empowered, a slave to having repressed her innate abilities. She’s still pretty, but with her face hidden behind glasses and her hair pulled back, she doesn’t know it herself. An unexpected disaster forces her to use her powers in public. Energized by her heroic deed, for the first time in her life, Kara begins embracing her extraordinary abilities. She begins helping the people of her city and they soon take notice — and she’s even given a new moniker: Supergirl.”

So, what do we think of the casting, and the somewhat drastic reinvention of Olsen’s character?
