I’m not going to lie, miniature gaming is not a cheap hobby. But I’ve tried to put together a set of thematic, reasonably priced lists at the maximum points that the game’s normally played at. Almost all of these lists are coming in at £55 (with a bit of careful shopping), and while they don’t cover all of the games factions, I’ve tried to throw you a few choices.
It’s a good rule of thumb that you should be able to play the game fully with any faction starter, faction goon pack, and a sidekick and/or couple of free agents of your choice. That’s particularly the case for the newer (Wonderland, Scarecrow, Riddler) or otherwise underdeveloped (Black Mask, Organized Crime).
HERO LISTS
(no starters – see previous articles on Law Forces for that!)
First, a Batman list. This uses the punching power of Batman, with a couple of key classic sidekicks and some cops; my own “basic” Bat-list:

– Arkham City Batman
– Batgirl
– Damian Wayne Robin&Arkham City Robin
– Cop pack 2 – Agent O’Connell, Female Cop
With a whole Bat family to play with (well, OK, no Dick or Jason, but still) this is a balanced, mobile list with some good generics to lend support.
Next up, Starling City’s Finest, for those of you who like your heroes Green rather than Gothic.

– TV Arrow
– Speedy
– Huntress
– Black Canary
– Cop pack 1 – male Cop
About as thematic a gang as you can make just now, this lot will leave you with an extra cop (Agent Ron) for variety, too.
JOKER LISTS
Here are two radically different takes on Joker gangs, which I’ve really not touched on much at all. Paralysis of choice is a real problem there (blame the gas!), so hopefully these will help –

– Joker (starter)
– Starter goons: Ringmaster,Clown, Contra-Auguste
– Harley Quinn Arkham City
– Elite clowns pack: Borgon, Asker
– Clown pack 2: clown with shield, Triston
Joker gangs are about swarms of clowns, with Harley adding speed to them all. If I were starting with Mr J, this would be my choice.
Then again…
– Harley Quinn Arkham Knight (starter)
– Harley starter Goons: Bragg, Worker (from AK Harley Starter)
– Deadshot
– Killer Croc
– Joker’s Titan Thug
As close as a “Task Force X” lineup as I can manage on a tight budget, if you’re so minded, with some classic members of the suicide squad in the mix. You’ll have an extra goon left over, too.
OTHER VILLAIN LISTS.
Two-face is easily one if my favourite characters not just in Batman but in comics generally, so had to get one in there. And thematically, I just love the visual of Deathstroke in there with him.

– Two-face (starter)
– Starter goons: Zwoowz, Puooup, Twoowt
– Deathstroke (Arkham origins)
– Two-face goons 1: Mottom, Rottor
And this last one’s a bit different, a bit cheaper (£49), and one specially for our editor-in-chief, Ceej:

– Poison Ivy
– 3 Plants from Ivy Starter
– Swamp Thing
– Hush
This is a slightly deranged list, not for the faint hearted, but does allow you to fully channel the power of the green!
Bane and League of Shadows are a different matter for another time – there’s a wider variety of options but they really need to be considered together as a wider investment.
Remember, these are just suggestions – nothing’s set in stone. But I hope they’ve helped, and I hope you’ve enjoyed this year’s slice of Geeking Out.
Remember to like, comment and share for a chance to win a Damian Wayne Robin! Winner will be announced at the end of the month, so there’s still plenty of time to get involved!
