The CW recently dropped the first trailer for their upcoming Black Lightning television series, starring Cress Williams in the title role as Jefferson Pierce, one of DC’s first black superheroes
However, while the show features a DC character, CW network president Mark Pedowitz confirmed on Thursday during the annual upfront that it won’t be a part of the already established “Arrowverse” — for the time being, at least.
The show, which was previously attached to Fox before moving to The CW, also hasn’t been given an official release date, and wasn’t included in the 2017 fall schedule, leading to speculation that it’ll air during the mid-season gap while the other shows are on hiatus.

Jefferson Pierce is a man wrestling with a secret. Nine years ago, Pierce was gifted with the superhuman power to harness and control electricity, which he used to keep his hometown streets safe as the masked vigilante Black Lightning. However, after too many nights with his life and his family on the line, he left his Super Hero days behind. Almost a decade later, Pierce’s crime-fighting days are long behind him…or so he thought. But with crime and corruption spreading like wildfire, Black Lightning returns — to save not only his family, but also the soul of his community.
