How do you do a Venom story without Spider-Man?
Since the film’s first announcement we’ve been wondering just how they would do it. And today’s second trailer seems to have confirmed what most of us had been thinking.
Take a look.
Clearly drawing mostly from Lethal Protector, this film seems to take Eddie Brock (played by Tom Hardy) entirely in the anti-hero direction, with scenes that feel directly lifted from Donny Cates’ current run on Venom.
The relationship between Brock and the Symbiote seems to be the core of this film and actually seems to balance the horror (we’re going full cannibalism here) with the more ridiculous nature of Venom as a character. Though the store scene I know is going to get compared unfavourably to the Shazam! trailer.
The only real question now is how believable Venom will look. When it’s just the suit it seems to look wonderful but the last 2 shots of the trailer to me feel too CG for my suspension of disbelief.
Regardless though at least we should get a decent character study film by Tom Hardy, but hopefully there will be more for us to sink our teeth into.
Venom hits cinemas on 4th October 2018.
