Three Directors In The Running For Upcoming Venom Sequel
According to Variety, there are reportedly three names in the running to direct Sony’s upcoming Venom sequel.
Andy Serkis (Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle , Breathe), Travis Knight (Bumblebee, Kubo and the Two Strings) and Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Captive State) are the candidates who have reportedly met to discuss the role, but nobody has moved into the ‘frontrunner’ position as yet.
Ruben Fleischer directed the first movie last year, but will not be returning as he is currently in post-production on “Zombieland: Double Tap.”
Despite some negative critical response, the first Venom movie actually went down rather well with moviegoers, garnering a 81% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Most importantly though, it made $856 million at the worldwide box office, more than the likes of Wonder Woman, Thor: Ragnarok and both Guardians of the Galaxy movies.
Kelly Marcel will pen the script for Venom 2 with Tom Hardy confirmed to return as Eddie Brock. Co-stars Michelle Williams and Woody Harrelson are also expected to return.
It’s heavily rumoured that Sony are planning a release date of October 2, 2020 for the sequel, a date they’re currently holding open for an “untitled Marvel project.”
