It’s Mando Monday, and we’ve got some exciting new previews from Hasbro X Star Wars. Don’t know about you, but I’m ready to ride the hype hyper-train.
The 6″ figures really target the casual adult fan market well. Where the likes of Hot Toys can feel prohibitive, the price tag on these hits the wallet comfortably whilst still having the scale and feel of a premium product – £34.99 for Mando and Child, £49.99 for Scout Trooper on Speeder with Child.
As a Kenner kid (my Rancor ate my Yoda!) I can’t deny the appeal of the nostalgic glory of the Vintage series, though the fact that you can get retro figures for a slightly lower price is a genius piece of marketing. The £18.99 Vintage Mando and Child is the stand-out from the set, but the £9.99 Cara is an absolutely lovely fig – my 4 year old gave a little squeak of excitement when she saw her! High praise indeed.
The unabashed glory of the animatronic child can’t be denied, and whilst £89.99 might seem a fair whack let’s think about how much Santa has wasted on far less appealing tat over the years (I’m looking at you, Furbies). The carrier is an absolute delight, because it can be worn in different ways to show off your little force wielding baby off to full effect. And of course, who wouldn’t want The Child all for themselves? In fact I don’t think I dare even show my kids a picture of this…
I have a funny relationship with Monopoly, as many gamers do. As a rule I’m not a fan of games that you don’t so much win as make your opponent lose. So I’m always more interested in versions of the game that take the core mechanic and twist it around. Personally, the idea of racking up credits whilst on the run from Imperials sounds like the best of both worlds, so this is a high priority on the Xmas list for me and the family.
