Hasbro Figure Review – Transformers Generations: War for Cybertron Golden Disk Collection

It’s fair to say that Hasbro going a bit mad with their exclusives lately. They were at there worst during Earthrise when nearly everyone was an exclusive, so at least they’ve dialed things back a bit for Kingdom, using only minor characters for the store exclusives.

The Golden Lisk line had me pretty excited from when the rumours started circulating. The Galactic Odyssey was effectively last year’s version of this, and they were all great. So how has the Golden Disk line turned out? Let’s take a look, shall we?

VERDICT: To kick off the line, we get these two. Huffer (the original mould) is a really average figure and I’m questioning whether we really need four of him. The deco on Road Ranger is amazing, but Puffer looks way too similar to Pipes to have me genuinely interested. Plus, we’re looking at £46.99 for these two, which seems a bit steep. Who remembers when you could get three-fifths of a Combiner for that much? Wow, how times have changed.

The quantum surge causes a time vortex, intercepting the GoBot Road Ranger and the Autobots Pipes and Huffer, pulling them through time and space. During the wild journey through the vortex, Huffer and Pipes fuse and arrive on prehistoric Earth as Puffer.

Autobot Road Ranger, the GoBot you were waiting for, and Autobot Puffer figures convert into their truck modes in 15 and 16 steps. Autobot Road Ranger comes with blaster and shield accessories, features deco based on his 2004 GoBots release. Autobot Puffer comes with 2 blaster accessories and features a fun fan nod (insert nod here).

VERDICT: This is really cool. The painting is amazing, really utilising the exclusive budget, and the new battle mask is epic and unique, I’m really surprised this isn’t Ricochet, but I definitely find Jackpot’s colours more interesting. Also including Sights, a Ptyraxedon repaint, along with more blast effects, this one is a personal favourite, I think it captures a impact explosion better than most. Sights is definitely a cool bonus. Plus, for £29.99, you’re getting the figures cheaper here than would individually, which is a real steal.

During the journey through the vortex, Jackpot gains the ability to convert into a vehicle mode for the first time while Sights gets a new alt mode!

Autobot Jackpot and Autobot Sights figures convert to sports car and axe modes in 20 and 5 steps. Autobot Jackpot comes with a blaster accessory that also mounts on his vehicle mode. Autobot Sights comes with a blast effect for his axe mode.

VERDICT: So, as far as I’m aware, this is based off of Tigatron’s original concept art. It’s maybe a bit ridiculous, but I don’t really mind. The new head is an upscaled Shadow Panther, which is great, and Tigatron was already a decent Voyager. He really excels in beast mode, and looks like a near replica of the animal. That said, for all the positives, I still don’t know if I’m to willing to spend £34.99 on this.

The quantum surge kills all Maximals and Predacons, except Tigatron. He survives, but the surge left him severely mutated, aggressive, and savage. He doesn’t remember his allegiance to the Maximals, and another survivor plots to take advantage…

Mutant Tigatron figure converts to tiger mode in 22 steps. He comes with his classic Quasar Cannon and tail whip accessories.

VERDICT: Honestly, this is pretty rubbish in my opinion. He is definitely a figure for the fans, but I don’t think an Airazor remould worked for him, particularly with the alt mode which is a bit rough. He does have a golden disk, although I don’t think the second one is included in this line, which is a bit lazy. He’s a fair price though, only costing as much as a regular deluxe.

Rather than perishing in a pool of lava, the lava protects Terrorsaur is infused with powerful lava energy that gives him the ability to breathe fire! He plots to travel back in time with his incredible new powers and take his rightful place as ruler of the Predecons!

Terrorsaur figure converts to pterodactyl mode in 22 steps. Includes a Golden Disk (Voyager) accessory and his blaster accessory.

FINAL VERDICT: Overall, I’m not a massive fan of this line, and for me the only set to consider picking up is Jackpot. I feel that these could’ve been better, but then again, these are really aimed ad die-hard Beast Wars fans, which I’m not. What do you guys think?
