Hasbro Pulse Con 2021 – Star Wars: The Black Series Announcement Recap
Last weekend, Hasbro held their annual PulseCon event, and the Star Wars team were absolutely on fire!
The reveals were top notch, so let’s take a look at what was announced starting with the brand new Black Series figures.
Star Wars: The Black Series – Boba Fett (Tython)

VERDICT: This is pretty cool, and definitely one of the best soft cloaks I’ve seen. The amount of weapons included is truly impressive and the painting is great, but I feel the head isn’t quite scarred up enough and ends up looking more like one of the clone heads.
Star Wars: The Black Series – Cobb Vanth

VERDICT: Continuing with the Mandalorian trend, this is really nice. All the sculpting and painting is immaculate, and the accessories haven’t been skimped on either. He looks like he jumped straight of the screen.
Star Wars: The Black Series – Migs Mayfeld (Morak)

VERDICT: Never in 100 years did I think we’d be getting a Black Series Bill Burr figure. As for the figure himself, he’s another really good one. That head is amazing. The possibility of army building with this one excites me, but let’s be honest, we really want the Mayfeld with robotic arms from season one.
Star Wars: The Black Series – The Mandalorian & Grogu Two-Pack (Maldo Kreis)

VERDICT: These are awesome. They use the same tech as the muddy Mando pack, and the accessories and possibilities are impressive; Grogu can snack on a jar of plastic eggs, or get attacked by the concept art Wampas (Ice Spiders) if that’s your jam.
Star Wars: The Black Series – The First Order Four-Pack

VERDICT: This is alright. The new AT-AT pilot is very nice, but he really needs a partner so that the AT-AT isn’t lopsided. General Hux is okay, but I feel he makes the box harder to use for army building. A generic, pointy-masked engineer might’ve been better. The Astromech Droid is a welcome inclusion, but by far the best part is the Mouse Droid. You can never have too many of these. Despite a few minor niggles, this pack is really cool.
Star Wars: The Black Series – Galactic Creatures Pack

VERDICT: This is great! The reissued Porgs are adorable, although posable wings would’ve been nice. The Bogling is new to me, but a welcome inclusion. The two Kowakian Space Monkeys are also cool (I prefer the super colorful one personally.) The Mynock is by far the best, but it really needed a stand to truly flourish.
Star Wars: The Black Series – Droid Depot Pack

VERDICT: This is the best of the multi pack releases. The Astromech is fun and colourful. The Pit Droid is so small yet posable, the Battle Droid is awesome, a really cool Black Series figure, and they can both fold up into storage forms. The Imperial Sentry Droid can be used in any Imperial display, while also doubling as a K-2SO is you need one. Also, posable Babu Frick! He’s so cute! This is an all-round incredible box set.
Star Wars: The Black Series – Force FX Elite – Leia’s Lightsaber

VERDICT: I have to say, Leia’s lightsaber was not that important in the franchise and, y’know, we don’t have a Vader saber yet. Don’t get me wrong, I think this is really awesome and the new interactivity features really push it to the next level, but was this really the right choice of saber? Also, I still stand by my previous thoughts on the atrocious price.
