Hasbro Figure Review – Marvel Legends Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Transformers Studio Series

In anticipation of the upcoming “vol. 3” movie, Hasbro has decided to give us an in-depth look at the first wave of their Marvel Legends Guardians of the Galaxy figures.

And, as an extra treat, seeing as it was Transformers Tuesday, they also decided to provide a look at some upcoming Studio Series figures.

So let’s take a peek at what’s coming down the line.

TRANSFORMERS

Transformers Studio Series Core Class Ironhide

(Ages 8 and Up | Approx. Retail Price: £11.99 | Available: Summer 2023)

VERDICT: I felt we should start by looking at the worst before moving on to the best. That’s not to say this figure is awful – heck, it’s better than the Earthrise version – I just feel there is something offputting about him. The backpack feels oversized, I don’t feel like this mould wears the iconic colour scheme very well, and we still don’t have a good G1 Megatron with a properly accurate robot mode to complete the scene. That cherry vanette alt mode is lovely though.

Transformers Studio Series Leader 86-19 Dinobot Snarl

VERDICT: While not having much fondness for Snarl personally, I’ve always loved the Dinobots, specifically from the ’86 movie. Let’s not be clouded by nostalgia though, this figure 100% stands on his own two feet (or four feet, depending on your mode of choice). The painting and sculpting create an impeccable robot mode, the posing seems to be in point, and the transformation appears to have unique and clever steps to achieve the stunning alt mode. The studio series Dinobots continue to be the best group of Dinobots ever produced, in my opinion.

MARVEL LEGENDS

As for the Marvel legends wave, these are also amazing, the Groot and Baby Rocket are my favourites. As for the Build-a-Figure; I love that it’s not a giant character consuming a large chunk of the wave’s budget (we’re looking at you, Cassie), but instead a small pack-in Cosmo that acts as a neat addition to the team.

MARVEL LEGENDS SERIES GROOT

VERDICT: I love this figure, and he’s really fairly priced for what you get.

“I AM GROOT!” Grown into a more mature tree, Groot uses his new body changes and more advanced skills to help build Knowhere and protect his family. MARVEL LEGENDS SERIES STAR-LORD

VERDICT: This figure is cool, but maybe a bit lackluster. I feel like a blast effect or two would’ve helped liven it up a little.

MARVEL LEGENDS SERIES DRAX

VERDICT: Where’d he go?!

Drax finally dons a shirt and becomes a more active member of the Guardians by helping set up their new headquarters – but he still has trouble thinking before he acts. Celebrate the MARVEL UNIVERSE with this MARVEL LEGENDS SERIES DRAX figure. This quality 6-inch scale Drax figure features deco and design inspired by the character’s appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3! MARVEL LEGENDS SERIES MANTIS

VERDICT: Another very good figure. I do worry that the antenna will be fragile, though.

After fighting many battles with the Guardians of the Galaxy, the once quiet Mantis is ready to open up, embrace her powers, and settle into her new home on Knowhere. MARVEL LEGENDS SERIES NEBULA

VERDICT: The mechanical detailing here is wonderful, and the head sculpt is perfect.

Since helping the Avengers defeat her adoptive father, Thanos, Nebula has become a full-fledged member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, who show her the true meaning of family. VERDICT: That’s one big gun, but he’s a bit overpriced for the size. £19.99 Would feel better, I think.

As Rocket takes on more leadership duties within the Guardians of the Galaxy, his past actions have consequences that come back to haunt him. MARVEL LEGENDS SERIES ADAM WARLOCK

VERDICT: Firstly, let’s hope that this isn’t the return of “gold plastic syndrome.” Secondly, I think the Lego minifig captures Will Poulter’s likeness better. Solid, but not great.

With his cosmic powers and super-human strength, Adam Warlock is sent by the Sovereign to seek revenge on the Guardians of the Galaxy who have humiliated them. VERDICT: The blast effect for the ‘arrow’ trail is amazing, and the likeness is perfect.

Former first mate of Yondu, and Ravager who fought alongside the Avengers against Thanos, Kraglin sets off with the Guardians to protect the galaxy. Celebrate the MARVEL UNIVERSE with this MARVEL LEGENDS SERIES KRAGLIN figure.
