In Total Party Killers, Dark Horse Comics’ latest Dungeons & Dragons miniseries, a group of adventurers find themselves on a quest to plunder the lair of the recently deceased wizard Custos. Each party member has their own reason for being there, and when they discover a young rogue named Tilli – seemingly the sole survivor of the previous attempt at breaking into the lair – they decide to team up and delve a little deeper into this trap and monster‑packed dungeon.

New York Times bestselling author Christopher Hastings ramps up the humour here, packing the pages with interesting characters and creative monsters – I particularly enjoyed the horrendous “bard” monstrosity, and it’s all but guaranteed that “Looksy” is going to be a real fan favourite – along with twists and turns galore. There’s a pleasingly diverse set of characters and classes involved, although without getting into spoiler territory, it might not be wise to get too attached to any one character, as the party we end the issue with may not necessarily resemble the one we started with. Just saying.

Denis Medri’s artwork is a real treat, full of expression, energy, and a cartoony aesthetic that gives the issue an unmistakably Saturday‑morning vibe. Dan Jackson’s colours really help the pages pop too, underscoring the cartoon‑esque feel of the story, and I absolutely love the neat little lettering flourishes by Lucas Gattoni any time a character casts a spell or cantrip. It’s the small details that really count.

The final pages see our ever‑so‑slightly reshuffled party heading off onto the next part of their quest, and given how eclectic the composition ends up, I’m one hundred percent hooked on finding out what happens next. This feels like a borderline unhinged D&D session in all the right ways, packed with twists, turns, humour, and action. Well worth a look.
