Publisher: Image
Writer: John Layman
Artist: Rob Guillory
Release Date: 11th December 2013

A filler issue of sorts, the issue follows ‘the fat man’ escaping from supermax in what can only be described as true Layman style. There’s new powers, there’s a lesson to be learned ( always brush your teeth kids!) And an ominous cliffhanger leaving me wonder just what was in Amelia’s notes!

Rob Guillory’s art seems to be like Marmite, a lot of people love it (myself included) and there’s some very strange folk that aren’t fans. Personally, I think the art in chew has been coming along leaps and bounds over its nearly 40 issue run and Guillory’s cartoonish and often garish style is perfectly suited.

Line of the month: “Want dessert? Too bad! There’s no dessert in jail!”

While in the grand scheme of things it could probably be skipped (though knowing Layman, there’s plenty that could be reintroduced in a later issue) its a good issue that put a smile on my face more than once and that can’t be a bad thing.

Rating: 7/10.
