Major ‘Gotham’ casting announcements, including The Penguin and Alfred!
Courtesy of the Hollywood Reporter, we have a slew of new casting announcements for Fox’s upcoming ‘Gotham’ television series.
FIrstly, Robin Lord Taylor (The Walking Dead, Another Earth) has been announced as playing a young Oswald Cobblepot – AKA the Penguin. Cobblepot is described as having “the brains of a chess grandmaster and the morals of a jackal” and as being “a low-level psychopath for gangster Fish Mooney who hides his sadistic lust for power behind an exquisitely polite demeanor.”, so presumably the series will bear witness to his ascent from low-level thug to criminal Kingpin. Which works for me.
Up next, Zabryna Guevara (Burn Notice) will play Captain Essen, rookie Gordon’s boss at the Gotham City Police Department’s homicide unit. Interestingly, as many of you will know, Essen and Gordon previously had an affair in the comic books, and the character has remained an on-again off-again love interest of Gordon for quite some time
Next, Erin Richards (Breaking In, Being Human) will play Barbara Kean, a “sophisticated ER doctor who is engaged to marry Gordon. Joyful but with an edge of vulnerability, she stands by her future husband — which can be difficult in a world as corrupt as Gotham.”
And last, but by no means least, Sean Pertwee (Elementary, Camelot) will play Alfred Pennyworth, a character who needs no introduction.
So, what do we make of this news, and how are we feeling overall about the potential of this show as more details are announced?
