Let the rumors begin! Latino Review’s El Mayimbe has reported that director Zach Snyder has met with Michael B Jordan for a role in the untitled Batman vs. Superman project. This news is peculiar, since Jordan is said to be cast in another superhero franchise in Fox’s Fantastic Four reboot.
According to their sources, they are looking for a black actor in his early 20’s who is also physically fit. It will be a small role in Batman vs. Superman, but will be recurring in other upcoming DCU films.
I’ve been convinced Victor Stone a.k.a. Cyborg would make an appearance in this film since it was rumored that this would be The Justice League movie, but let’s take look at some interesting clues from last year.
Four months ago Snyder shot a football sequence featuring Gotham City University and Metropolis State University. ‘Justice League: War’ sets up Victor Stone as a Metropolis High School football player. After the game, Victor goes to S.T.A.R. Labs to confront his father Silas about not coming to the game. Afterwards, an accident leaves Victor in critical condition, and his father’s decision to save his son results in the creation of Cyborg.
Detroit, Michigan isn’t just the home to Green Lantern John Stewart, but the location of the laboratory responsible for the construction of the half-man, half-machine. It might be worth noting that Cyborg’s headquarters in the Flashpoint universe was in Detroit. There is no denying that The Motor City has a strong presents in the Cyborg mythology, but it’s also the location where Batman vs. Superman will be shooting later this month.
In a behind the scenes interview, Henry Cavill references Dr. Emil Hamilton’s connection to S.T.A.R. Labs, and name drops Cyborg. That seems like a real tedious detail for the actor to pick up on and while it’s a possibility he is a fan of the comics, the studio was probably behind that reference. Check out the video below.
The secrecy surrounding this project is frustrating to say the least, but as production begins we should start to see set photos emerge, which hopefully will reveal which players will be involved with this film, as well as Wonder Woman’s new look. We’re supposed to get our first glimpse of Batman’s new costume in March. Kevin Smith says that it’s has never been done before in the movies, and I hope it’s modelled after Jim Lee’s Hush. Batman and Superman even duke it out in that story and it would be cool to see them honour that iconic design. Superman’s suit is getting tweaked for this sequel; personally though I would rather someone get the Superman Flyby costume out of storage. Either way, stay tuned for more concrete details as they emerge.
Michael B. Jordan is no stranger to the superhero genre staring in Josh Trank’s Chronicle. In fact, he’s already played Cyborg once before in Justice League: Flashpoint Paradox. Which role would you prefer to see him in: The Human Torch or Cyborg? Do you think it could be for another character, and if so who?
