I can’t make my mind up about this book at all. I openly admit that I hated so much about One Hit Wonder that reading from start to finish I found myself tutting like a disappointed parent.

However, I can tell you know that I will definitely read Issue .

The entire sequence of events in One Hit Wonder flows as if it has been ripped directly from a 13 year old boys head…a 13 year old boy with too much time on his hands. The story follows an ex child star who has grown to be “Hollywood’s most famous hit man”. Everything in this book is so over the top it’s hard to take any of it seriously:

I mean, a hitman that is living in Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch, who loses his temper before firing his gun in public and firing “big rockets” from his car… I’m not kidding, he fires “rockets” from his car.

The pop references are so frequent it leaves you with a feeling like you’re in a never ending conversation with a serial name-dropper… and the unnecessary nudity and lesbianism is equally as immature.

However, there is also something endearing about this Issue which kept me reading right to the end. Including an incredible final scene which sets up for Issue with a cliff-hanger of almost Breaking Bad quality. The book is unashamedly immature and proud of it…like a comic book version of American Pie.

Rating: 1/5 or 4/5 (I really can’t decide)
