I ended my review of Issue by stating I couldn’t make my mind up on how to rate it, 1/5 or 4/5.

Now I know… Issue has firmly cemented One Hit Wonder in the 4/5 camp.

The issue opens by showing us how Reese became the way he is, how he developed from a child star to a Mafia hit-man. The scenes play out like a surreal children’s movie, like Richie Rich on acid. A child born into privilege rebels after disappointment into the fictional world of the Italian mafia; with Scarface and The Godfather becoming his new bible. As the eventuality of all obsessions, at some point fiction no longer satisfies and he forces his way into the very real Hollywood Mafia.

Gone is the immaturity that marred the first issue and in comes some strong character development, plot twists and solid artwork. The only thing that is not as strong as it could be is the lettering, with balloons often in awkward positioning.

This book will probably receive negative reviews, it is the type of story critics will love to hate. Ignore them, give it a go yourself and see what you think.

Rating: 4/5.
