Quicksilver vs. Quicksilver: Whose version will reign supreme?

With X-Men: Days of Future Past receiving praise for the most part, a lot of attention has turned to Evan Peters and his role as Quicksilver. In the small role within the movie the character was proves a fun part of the mix  — with a common thread being that as Quicksilver he “scene stole”, that is impressive considering he shared the screen with Michael Fassbender, James McKavoy and Hugh Jackman.

Originally the character wasn’t even envisioned as part of the film and was added at a late stage — In a move that was seen as a response to Joss Whedon announcing his intention to use Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. In May of last year Peter’s role as Quicksilver was announced by Bryan Singer on twitter, in August Aaron Taylor-Johnson was announced to have the role in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Both have now been seen in there roles, in Aaron Taylor-Johnsons case very briefly. But with further plans for Evan’s Peters in the Days of Future Past sequel Apocalypse — it would would seem like the situation isn’t going to go away… at least any time soon.

With that in mind we thought we would compare the two and see which one has the better chance of catching on [… further].

Evan Peters as Pietro Maximoff / Quicksilver

Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Pietro Maximoff / Quicksilver

Previously seen in;
American Horror Story [S1, S2, S3], Kick-Ass, Never Back Down

Previously seen in;
Kick-Ass, Godzilla, Kick-Ass 2, Savages

Studio: Fox

Pros: Scene steals in critically successful film first, will receive larger role in X-Men: Apocalypse, Can refer to Magneto as Father.

First on-screen role [cameo appearance in Captain America: The Winter Soldier], paired with twin the Scarlet Witch, has a costume which is distinctly similar to comic, more Bankable actor, possibly European [like source material].

Cons: Absence of his twin the Scarlet Witch, Lack of costume, can’t interact with Avengers or Inhumans, American as opposed to European [unlike source material].

Can’t refer to mutation or extended family, Cant be a member of X-Factor / Brotherhood.

What the makers say?: “That Quicksilver character is one of the many things Bryan brought to the movie”

“McAvoy, [Michael] Fassbender, Ian, Patrick — have done famous productions of Macbeth. If the world can handle that, it can definitely handle two Quicksilvers.”

X-Men DoFP/ Apocalypse Producer – Simon Kinberg

It’s a huge part of the movie,” … “I’m really excited about it and I don’t know what they’re doing [on X-Men].”

Avengers: Age of Ultron Director – Joss Whedon

The Verdict: Whilst Evan Peters and the effects team behind X-Men: Days of Future Past made their take on the character fun in it’s own right, it skews that far from who Quicksilver is in the comics that the resemblance is only superficial as it excludes his Ethinicity, his sister and troubled upbringing thus overlooking core elements of the character. In comparison Aaron Taylor-Johnson can at least cover those elements — with the awkward omission of his mutant origins.

Both are equally as skilled in acting and similarly have to share screen time as part of large ensembles however it would seem that Quicksilver will take center stage within Age of Ultron, where as it is — Peters will more likely just be ingratiated into the X-Men from the small role in DoFP.

Whedon has from the earliest of stages of Avengers: Age of Ultron conceived of Quicksilvers part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Therefore it would seem based on those facts that Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Quicksilver will become the bigger player not only in their respective franchise but as a whole. Though it depends on how things play out in each characters respective movies.
