So, the rebooted tale of Cassie Hack comes to the end of its first story arc. Does it do so with a whimper or a bang? Well, certainly with a lot of blood, that’s for sure.

It’s still a frantic, frenetic actioner this, but we also get pacey dialogue and a healthy dose of revenge. After Delroy went the way of all flesh in the previous issue, it’s up to Cassie and her new sidekick to bring the battle to monsters that have been lurking in the shadows.

It’s great fun, still, striking a tremendous balance between the different sequences. The art continues to be strongly televisual in feel and serves the piece really well. The narrative payoff holds no great surprises, but is satisfying nonetheless. It’s great to have a monstrous action comic that’s not a horror comic sometimes – I love me some mythos, but sometimes you want a bit of variety.

Reading this run has been a pleasure all the way, and the setup for the longer storyline – a relationship that’s somewhere between siblings and parent/child – will give this the emotional depth it needs to be really rounded. A great end to a great run.

Rating 4/5.
