Quick story time: around ten years ago I fell in love with a girl, I then fell in love with a small green alien and his robot, then the girl fell in love with the same green alien and robot, and we all lived happily ever after.

EXCEPT… there were only so many episodes of the little green alien made, and it got to the point where we couldn’t watch it anymore. So you can imagine how excited I was when Zim was optioned for a comic release. Well, I could not be happier to report that Zim is very much back.

This is the book I’ve been waiting a very long time for, and it doesn’t disappoint in any way shape or form. I honestly don’t remember the last time I laughed so hard at a book, and my girlfriend is beside me now almost crying while reading it.

Starting off some time after the original series ended, we find that Zim has been in exile and Dib has spent all of this time fusing with a chair, not moving from a camera feed of Zim’s house. The book is filled with the kind of humour you’d remember, and I think “Smeeble” might be my new favorite insult. Simply put, everything you would want from the series is right here on these pages.

The art team have done wonders, recreating the feel of the show, but still changing tiny parts of it to make it their own. It’s bright, it’s loud, it’s over-exaggerated, it’s ridiculous, and it’s perfect.

I don’t think there’s much else to say about the book and to be honest, you really should be reading it by now, right?

Gorge yourselves, you moochers!

Rating: 5/5.
