The 5 New Comics We’re Most Excited About Reading in May 2017

With all the comics going on sale every month, it can sometimes be difficult to keep track of the new books that are being added to the mix all the time.

Well, to help with that, we’ve taken a look ahead and hand-picked the five new titles that we’re most excited about getting our hands on in May.

So take a look, and let us know which of these you’re most excited about in the comments.

Regression #1  (Image Comics) – On sale May 10th

Cullen Bunn’s horror chops are pretty much unquestioned by now, so the prospect of seeing him digging into the world of hypnotism and past-life regression in a brand-new creator-owned series definitely has us excited.  Danny Luckert provides the artwork for this chilling tale which sees Adrian, a young man plagued by terrifying hallucinations, delving into his repressed memories to try and discover their source, only for something to follow him back to the real world.  Oh, and if you want to find out more about the series, you can check out our interview with Bunn by CLICKING HERE.

Predator: Hunters #1 (Dark Horse Comics) – On sale May 3rd

A new Predator book from Dark Horse Comics is always a reason for celebration, and this latest series from Chris Warner and Francisco Ruiz Velasco, which sees the tables turned as a band of Predator survivors decide to group together to make the hunter the hunted, is all but guaranteed to deliver.  In my advance review of the first issue, I called it “a welcome return to the sweat-soaked, pulse-pounding blend of action and horror than made the classic 80s movie such a runaway success”, and with ties to several classic 90s Predator comics, this one comes highly, highly recommended.

The Normals #1 (Aftershock Comics) – On Sale May 24th

The latest offering from upstart publisher Aftershock Comics asks some interesting questions about the nature of reality and whether, even if you knew everything in your life wasn’t real, you’d still fight to save it.  Writer Adam Glass is joined by Dennis Calero for this thoroughly intriguing series, and given Aftershock’s flair for exciting, boundary-pushing creator owned content, this one is practically dripping with potential.

Misfit City #1 (BOOM! Studios) – On sale May 10th

This month also sees the comicbook debut of Legally Blonde screenwriter Kiwi Smith, who teams with co-writer Kurt Lustgarten and artist Naomi Franquiz on Misfit City, a wonderfully diverse and positive all-ages series with a generous nod to 80s classic The Goonies.  Featuring a group of girls living in Cannon Cove, a small coastal town that most people have only heard of because it was the filming location for a beloved kids’ adventure movie from the 1980s, the series sees out heroes discovering a real treasure map, which leads them on an adventure even crazier than the one in the movie. If you want to find out more, make sure to check out our interview with the creative team by CLICKING HERE.

Bug!: The Adventures of Forager #1 (DC Comics) – On sale May 10th

And finally, we have the latest addition to DC’s flourishing Young Animal imprint, as the Allreds – Michael, Laura and Lee – unite to bring the classic Kirby ‘Fourth World’ character back to the pages of comics.  If that alone isn’t enough to convince you to pick this one up, then you should CLICK HERE for a little more information about what to expect from the series.
