HBO Max have announced today that they have given an original series commitment to a brand new televised drama focusing on the Gotham City Police Department and set in the world of Matt Reeves’ The Batman.
Speaking about the announcement, Reeves said “This an amazing opportunity. Not only to expand the vision of the world I am creating in the film, but to explore it in the kind of depth and detail that only a longform format can afford—and getting to work with the incredibly talented Terence Winter, who has written so insightfully and powerfully about worlds of crime and corruption, is an absolute dream.”
The as yet unnamed series will be written and co-executive produced by Boardwalk Empire creator Terrence Winter, with Reeves serving as the other executive producer, and will help expand on the climate of corruption in Gotham which will feature heavily in Reeves’ film. It’s also the first television project for Reeves under his recently announced overall deal with the Warner Bros. Television Group.
The Batman is currently slated to hit theaters on October 1, 2021 and will give fans a look at a young Batman, played by Robert Pattison, early in his career as a crime fighter.
