OneHitWonder_03-1Publisher: Image Comics
Writer: Fabrice Sapolsky
Artist: Ariel Olivetti
Release Date: 4th June 2014

We’ve been waiting since March for the third instalment of this exciting new title from Image; and I have to say, it was well worth the wait. This is a fast paced, action packed emotional rollercoaster of an issue, jumping between hilarious and disgusting like the comic book kin of The League of Gentlemen. And no, not The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. There is no Sean Connery here… but with the zaniness that flows through this title’s veins; we really can never rule that kind of cameo out.

Our main man Richie Reese returns in spectacular style, arriving by helicopter, hijacking a parody of the big brother house. It is this bravado that makes Richie such a compelling character. He’s James Bond and Michael Corleone rolled into one. Half despicable mafia gangster, half super-spy.

Each issue of One Hit Wonder feels different. I personally read a different theme from each issue; and issue wreaks of 80’s Miami. The clothes and backgrounds could be taken directly from the cutting room floor of noughties uber-hit Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Which simply adds to the appeal of this strange, strange tale!

Old childhood friends return, some people die, some style is on show.

Sit back, suspend your disbelief and enjoy this title for what it is…highly enjoyable!

Rating: 4/5.
