Writer/Artist: Skottie Young
Release Date: 2nd July 2014

With the release of the Guardians of the Galaxy movie fast approaching, you kind of have to forgive Marvel for the massive uptake of GoTG related books. However, I’m happy to report that this latest release is one damn fine book! For fans old and new of Rocket, this is pretty much the perfect book, complete with quick wise-cracking, massive guns, suave one-liners and a few familiar cameos. Yeah, this book ticks all the boxes.

The icing on the cake however, is Young’s immaculate art work. If ever there was a character that was perfectly suited to his style it would be Rocket Raccoon! Being highly stylistic, yet still very much “comicy”, it might look like a kiddie book, but it most definitely will appeal to an older audience.

Without delving into spoiler territories, RR is on a date with a lovely lady and suddenly finds himself becoming a wanted criminal. Yadda, yadda, sewer pipe, big gun, tone set for series.

It’s not the most perfect first issue, but it still does a cracking job, setting the scene for the series and bringing Rocket back into the public eye with a bang.

Rating: 4/5.
