Screencrapped: Stan Lee in Yoga Hosers and Birdman flies
So in an effort to keep abreast of the latest news on comic book movies and TV shows, of which there has been a deluge of. We will again be compiling recent headlines from across the interwebz about what you can expect to see off the panel and on-screen soon.
Marvel Studios
RDJ <3 GotG
Robert Downey Jr. recently told reporters at the Toronto Film Festival that he felt that Guardians of the Galaxy was Marvel’s best movie yet, he is quoted [In The Toronto Sun] as saying:
“Galaxy in some ways is the best Marvel movie ever,And it’s odd for someone with — on occasion — an ego the size of mine to actually say that!”.
That being said, besides Captain America: The Winter Soldier [which received huge critical praise], most of the well regarded movies have had RDJ front and center but at least no one can claim he isn’t modest.
The cosmic adventure has just this week reached past the $500m mark, it is safe to say by the time the film finishes its run it will have performed as one of Marvel’s strongest movies.

Kick-Ass
Hit-Girl herself – Chloë Grace Moretz doesn’t see a future for the franchise based off of Mark Millar’s creator owned title due to movie piracy. In a recent interview with Digital spy she said:
“Sadly, I think I’m done with the character. Hit-Girl was a very cool character, but I don’t think there will be any more movies. You make these movies for the fanboys, but nowadays everyone seems to pirate them rather than watch them in the movie theatre. Kick-Ass 2 was one of the number one pirated movies of the year, but that doesn’t help us because we need box office figures. We need to prove to the distributors that we can make money from a third and a fourth movie – but because it didn’t do so well, we can’t make another one.“
But haven’t we heard this one before?, Piracy has been blamed for the under-performance of X-Men Origins: Wolverine and more recently The Expendables 3. Both movies were heavily pirated but here is the thing — all movies are pirated, Using the number of times they have been downloaded as a metric for the films lack of success just doesn’t hold water, especially when those named films were critically panned [In the case of Kick-Ass 2, it currently has a 29% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.] ergo you could equally blame negative feedback for increasing those downloads, as cinema goers decide to download it rather than chance their ticket money on a film that all indications point to being a dud.
So don’t hold out hope for a third and final entry in the franchise.
Birdman
The meta-comedy – which stars Michael Keaton as an aging actor who formerly played a superhero named Birdman – has received glowing early reviews, Multiple reports from the Venice Film festival have the film (also starring Emma Stone, Ed Norton and Zach Galifianakis) pegged the Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu directed flick as one of the festival’s best ever opening movies.
Deadline Hollywood‘s Nancy Tartaglione said of the screening:
“Applause, laughter and strong emotion emanated from attendees in the refurbed Sala Darsena this morning during the first press screening. Making my way out afterwards, I heard “bellissimo” uttered at least a dozen times.”.
It goes without saying that we here are excited to see any of the former Dark Knight”s work, especially this one given the subject matter but to hear that the film is receiving such attention only makes us want to see it that much more.
Yoga Hosers
One of the next Stan Lee cameos will not come from a Marvel film as has typically been the case but rather he will be appreaing in Kevin Smith’s next-next film “Yoga Hosers”. Which has been described as like a comic book movie but with teenagers [and no connection to any actual comic] with a cast that includes Johnny Depp and his daughter in addition to Smith’s own [ Harley Quinn Smith and Lily-Rose Depp ].
This is the second time Stan has appeared in one of Smith’s films, previously he appeared in Smith’s sophmoric feature: Mallrats, where he dispensed his sage like advice.

Arrow
Former Sin City actress Devon Aoiki had previously been announced as bagging the role of Tatsu Yamashiro aka Katana, however due to reported scheduling conflicts this isn’t the case. This is disappointing for those eager to see her in action but her replacement me be even better as Rila Fukushima who previously starred as Logan’s Sidekick “Yukio” in The Wolverine, has been announced as taking over the role.

As Yukio.
Superhero Beatdown
Youtube channel Bat in the Sun have a number of interesting projects in the pipeline. In the Venn Diagram of comic books, Power Rangers and Wrestling there are a some that should entertain or at least intrigue.
In their next Superhero Beatdown; Casey Jones will be going up against Kick-Ass, The part of the Ninja Tutrle’s hockey masked buddy will be played by none other than former WWE star John Morrison, The video is expected to hit Youtube next in their slate of videos, future projects also include Batman vs. Darth Vader and Ryu vs. the Green Dragon Ranger [who will be played by MMPR actor Jason David Frank.].
But that isn’t all: a new original project will see Bat In The Sun use Morrison, Frank and Power Rangers Time Force actor Jason Faunt (Red), The project is called “Taz Kayden: Operation Black Unicorn”. So far the channel remains tight lipped on details but based on their output will presumably involve Superheroics of some kind.
